Beijing Shougang, a subsidiary of China's sixth-largest integrated steelmaker Shougang Group, has announced the operation of a new grain-oriented (GO) electrical steel production line which is also the world's first specialized production line of 100% thin gauge and high magnetic induction GO electrical steel line, and unveiled two new GO electrical steel products at its product launch event held on April 19 in Qian'an city, North China's Hebei province.
The construction of this new production line started in June 2021 with a total investment of Yuan 1.73 billion ($251.2 million). It has adopted several new technologies pioneered by the company itself and equipped with the first self-integrated high-temperature annealing ring furnace in China, according to the release.
The new line is expected to have an annual output of 90,000 tonnes of high-performance GO electrical steel and to achieve a sales revenue of Yuan 630 million per year, Mysteel Global learned.
The running of this new electrical steel production line has marked another important step Shougang taken towards green and high-quality development, noted Wu Weidong, member of the CPC Hebei provincial standing committee and secretary of Tangshan municipal committee.
At the launch event, Beijing Shougang also debuted two new GO electrical steel products (grades: 15SQF1250 and 23SQGD085LS), which will serve as core materials for wind power, photovoltaic and other new energy generation technologies, and support the low-carbon development demand of the power grid.
About 490 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and 480,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions could be saved and reduced every year with the use of 90,000 tonnes of high-performance GO electrical steel from this line in high-efficiency and energy-saving transformers, Wang Chenggang, deputy general manager of Shougang Zhixin informed.
Owned by Beijing Shougang, Shougang Zhixin is a professional operation platform integrating research and development, manufacturing, sales, and service for Shougang electrical steel. It has now developed six major product series covering 61 GO electrical steel varieties, among which the ultra-thin gauge products have held the largest share in the domestic market for many years, Mysteel Global observed.
Electrical steel, also known as the "Crown Jewel" of the steel industry, is an important soft magnetic functional material widely used in motors and transformers. And GO electrical steel particularly shows outstanding performance with its high magnetic induction and low iron loss.
