For retail contracts in April this year, Japan’s Tokyo Steel has decided to lift prices for most long steel products, which are used for construction activities, but it kept flat steel prices stable, Kallanish learns.
The quotations for deformed bars and H-beams will be raised by JPY 3,000/tonne ($22.65/t), the same increase registered in March. This will push their base prices to JPY 103,000/t and JPY 127,000/t respectively.
After holding steady in March, the prices of I-beams, channel steel and U-shaped steel piles will also see an increase of JPY 3,000/t next month.
For some flat steel products however, prices will remain stable for the eighth month in a row. The base price for hot rolled plate and pickling steel plate are now JPY 122,000/t, and JPY 134,000/t, respectively.
The offers for thick plate will also remain unchanged after seeing a JPY 3,000/t increase in May last year. Its prices stand at between JPY 128,000/t and JPY 132,000/t.
