German steelmaker SMS group will modernize SteelAsia's Calaca steel plant, which will increase the plant's production by 20% and use 100% renewable energy for steelmaking in order to reduce the carbon footprint.
SteelAsia has five other steelworks in the Philippines' Bulacan, Cebu, Davao, and Misamis Oriental. The company planned to open a seventh plant this year in Cebu, and the annual production of steel rebars will increase from 2 million tons to 3 million tons.
