Canadian steel import share continuously increased from 2014's 19% to 2022's 39%. Therefore, the Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) urged the government to protect local steel industry competitiveness and safeguard jobs.
In addition, CSPA indicated that the authority should invest in the steel industry, including using low-carbon emission steel, further improving trade defenses, and maintaining carbon pricing regimes.
Canadian steel industry continued to improve its carbon emissions and aimed to reduce more than 45% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
