Foxconn may build second chip factory in India

According to an anonymous government official, Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn is interested in establishing a second semiconductor plant in India, in addition to the one in collaboration with Vedanta in Gujarat, Kallanish learns.

Foxconn's leader Young Liu recently visited Hyderabad, the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana. He also wrote to the chief ministers of Karnataka and Telangana, expressing the company's commitment to setting up electronic manufacturing plants.

Young Liu said in a statement: "My recent trip to India supported Foxconn’s efforts to deepen partnerships, meet old friends and make new ones, and seek cooperation in new areas such as semiconductor development and EVs. On the basis of sharing, collaborating and thriving together, Foxconn will continue to communicate with local governments to seek the most beneficial development opportunities for the company and all stakeholders."

This hasn't yet been confirmed by Foxconn. Foxconn could make the move even without incentives from the Indian government, some media sources speculated.

According to Indian newspaper Business Standard, the state government of Telangana has offered 200 acres of land to Foxconn for it to set up the plant at Kongara Kalan, about 35 kilometres from Hyderabad.
