Taiwan’s government strives for Taiwan's carbon fee to be offset by EU's carbon border tax

The EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will be started with a trial operation in October this year. Deputy Minister of Taiwan’s Economic Affairs Wen-Sheng Tseng said that the government is negotiating with the EU, hoping that the EU can directly accept electricity carbon emission factor and renewable energy certificates issued by Taiwan officials, no need to go through third-party verification, and agree the carbon fee charged in Taiwan can be offset against the EU carbon border tax.

At present, Taiwan’s industries with large carbon emissions have begun to reduce carbon emissions. The government hoped that industry associations can lead the suppliers to calculate carbon emissions.
