Kobe Steel’s low-CO2 steel to be used in shipbuilding

Kobe Steel, one of the major steelmakers in Japan, announced that its low-CO2 blast furnace steel product Kobenable Steel will be supplied to Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for the construction of a 180,000-ton class bulk carrier. Kobenable Steel can reduce CO2 emissions in shipbuilding compared to conventional steel products.

Imabari Shipbuilding is the first shipbuilding company in the world to use Kobenable Steel. The company aims to increase the efficiency of transportation of materials and equipment and to reduce power consumption and raw material usage in the manufacturing process.
