NMDC Steel is expected to start steel production at the beginning of the next fiscal year ending 31 March 2024 (FY24), NMDC chief managing director Sumit Deb informed during an analyst/investor meeting.
our target is to ensure that it [NMDC Steel] gets commissioned by the 31st of March, our coke oven batteries are already done, I mean they are already producing ore,” Deb said. “The centre plant is about to start and the blast furnace is ready. So more or less, I think we are prepared to start commissioning activities at the next financial year… beginning of the next financial year.”
Deb said about the iron ore sourcing for NMDC Steel, “So Nagarnar [NMDC Steel] still plan doesn't have a dedicated iron ore mine. So, it will be entirely sourcing [iron ore] from NMDC currently.”
NMDC Steel in November commissioned its first coke oven battery, no.1 (see Kallanish passim). The steel company’s shares have also been listed on the Bombay and National Stock Exchanges (BSE and NSE), as part of the unit’s privatisation.
Nagarnar Steel Plant aims to produce 2.89 million tonnes/year of high-quality hot rolled coil and plate.
