In order to increase steel supply to fulfill requirements brought by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), Ternium, a leading steel manufacturing company in Latin America, will invest US$2.2 billion to build a new electric arc furnace (EAF) slab mill in North America.
The new EAF slab mill will have an annual production capacity of 2.6 million tons, and it will include a direct reduced iron (DRI) plant of a capacity of 2.1 million tons per year and a port facility for raw material imports.
This project was scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2026.
