Mexico extends countervailing duty on Chinese wire rod

Mexico has extended for another five years a countervailing duty on imports of wire rod originating in China, commencing from 29 July 2021.

This is according to a document from the Ministry of Economy published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) on 19 January. The compensatory quota was originally implemented on 28 July 2016, Kallanish reports.

Mexico’s Secretary of Economy (SE) accepted Deacero, Ternium and ArcelorMittal’s complaint that the removal of duties would negatively impact domestic production.

SE maintains a compensatory quota for Chinese wire rod imports at $0.49/kilogram.
