Japan imposes duties on Chinese, Korean galvanized wire

The Japanese Ministry of Finance (MoF) announced on 24 November that it has started imposing five-year anti-dumping duties on hot-dip galvanized steel wire imported from China and South Korea.

Kallanish learns from the MoF document that Chinese products are facing duties of 26.5%-41.7%, and South Korean products' duties are 9.8%-24.5%. The HS codes for products involved are 7217.20 and 7229.90. Galvanized steel wire is often used in the manufacture of fencing and barbed wire.

However, above products originating in Hong Kong and Macau will be excluded from taxation.

The investigation follows an application earlier this year by Japanese domestic producers Nichia Steel Works, Hokkai Seisen, Galvert Japan and Wire Techno. The companies complain that low-priced imports hurt domestic industries and hit their profits.
