Brazil has extended its definitive anti-dumping measure on imports of rectangular bars of alloy steel from China for up to five years starting from 24 November. This is according to a document from the local foreign trade secretariat of the Brazilian Ministry of Industry (Secex/MDIC) monitored by Kallanish.
The duty covers flat-rolled bars of alloy steel, drawn or hot extruded, which are not fast cutting or silicon-manganese steel, of a thickness of between 4.5-60 millimetres and a width of 50-150 mm. This material is classified under the Brazilian ‘Nomenclatura Comum do MERCOSUL’ (NCM) code as 7228.30.00.
According to the decision, Brazil will continue to apply duties for Chinese origin bars of alloy steel of $437.09/tonne.
The investigation was originally launched following a request from local producer Gerdau. The measure was first imposed in November 2016 after the Brazilian authorities noted that there is sufficient evidence of damage to imports to the domestic production of flat-rolled bars of alloy steel.
