It would be interesting to see if hot rolled plates and hot rolled coils production will increase significantly in 2021. Bloom, beam and blank import doubled in volume to nearly 90,000 tonnes in the first 10 months of 2021. This could be a result from the recovery of large section production in the country in 2021.

Indonesia’s semi-finished steel import registered 2.77 million tonnes, a decline of 6.3% y-o-y. Billet import surged 5.9% to 361,000 tonnes. Carbon slab import increased 11% to 1.8 million tonnes. Semi-finished steel export from Vietnam registered 3.5 million tonnes, an increase of 16%. Billet export was 1.8 million tonnes, an increase of 13% y-o-y. Around 80% of billet export was to China. Slab export rose by 8.7% to 1.5 million tonnes. Vietnam sent slab mostly to China and to other countries, including Philippines, Taiwan and Brazil.
