Dexin commissions No.2 coke oven in Indonesia

Dexin Steel Indonesia has put into operation its No.2 coke oven, Kallanish notes. The coke oven was completed at the end of August 2019 (see Kallanish passim).

The company says commissioning was delayed because Covid-19 prevented the timely arrival of employees and some accessories. This situation also delayed the construction of the No. 2 blast furnace.

The total capacity of Dexin's No.2 coke project is 1.3 million tonnes/year, according to company information. The plant will also put into operation two 1,780-cubic-metre blast furnaces, two 120-tonne converters and one 1.5m t/y bar mill.

Dexin Steel is designed to have 3.5m t/y of steel capacity, with 1.5m t/y of this reserved for the production of merchant billet or slab. When the steel plant is fully commissioned, Dexin Steel will become a large-scale steelmaker. It will integrate coking, sintering, ironmaking, steelmaking and steel rolling processes with its main products being bars, wire rod and slab or billet.
