Posco may take three months to repair the stainless steel plant at its Pohang steelworks, according to media reports.
A fire broke out at the mill and was extinguished two hours later on 13 June (see Kallanish passim).
The Pohang stainless steel division will focus on stable supply to ensure that product deliveries will not be interrupted in the third quarter. Posco’s overseas bases in China and Thailand will play an active role in ensuring deliveries.
Posco's Chinese plants will be able to supply some material that was originally due to be supplied from Pohang. These plants have enough excess capacity that their own orders will also not be affected by taking on orders from Pohang.
