Message from Secretary General_January 2020

The year 2020 marks the start of a new chapter for SEAISI, as SEAISI gears up for another interesting year ahead, with many upcoming events and activities.
 
The 2020 SEAISI Travelling Seminar will bring 5 experts from our supporting member countries, Australia, South Korea and Taiwan to our member countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam), where they will impart their knowledge and expertise. 
 
The theme for the 2020 SEAISI Travelling Seminar is “Strengthening Transformation on Digitalization through Reliability and Productivity Improvement”. Held from 9 – 24 March 2020, the seminar will start in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 9 March 2020, followed by Yangon, Myanmar (11 March 2020), Bangkok, Thailand (13 March 2020), Hanoi, Vietnam (16 March 2020), Jakarta, Indonesia (18 March 2020) and end in Manila, Philippines on to 22 March 2020.
 
Amongst the papers to be presented are, “Introduction of POSCO Total Solution Marketing” by POSCO, South Korea,  “Intelligent Quality Management in Steelmaking and Continuous Casting” by China Steel Corporation, Taiwan, “Infrabuild and Industry 4.0 – System Modernisation, Integration, and Execution” by Infrabuild Steel, Australia, “Data Analytics for Improving Production Efficiency in Iron and Steel Making Processes” by Kobe Steel, Japan and “POSCO’s Smart Factory”, by POSCO, South Korea.
 

For 2020, SEAISI will have a new activity named the SEAISI Improvement and Quality (IQ) Competition. This is for ASEAN Steel Company representatives   to   present   their  improvement activities and/or R&D projects covering areas such as operations / process, product development, maintenance, quality and energy.

 
The theme for the 2020 SEAISI IQ Competition is “Developing a Competitive Steel Industry in ASEAN through Continuous Improvement”. Results from the first round competition will be announced during the 2020 SEAISI Conference and Exhibition. 
 
The 2020 SEAISI Conference and Exhibition will be held on 8 – 11 Jun 2020 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the theme of the conference is, “Steel in ASEAN: New Possibilities, New Challenges and New Approaches”. The SEAISI Conference is one of the highly anticipated events that attracts more than 500 delegates from around the world.
 
One of the highlights of the conference is the Keynote Session, which will feature prominent keynote speakers and a CEO panel discussion involving some of the top executives of steel companies in the region.
 
There will also be several interesting sessions on regional steel industry developments, issues and challenges in the industry as well as the status of the steel industry in Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam as well as Australia, South Korea and Taiwan. 
 
We will also have the usual technical sessions on many important topics of interest to the steel fraternity.
 
For the plant tour, arrangements are being made to organize visits to leading steel and steel related establishments in Malaysia.
 
In conjunction with the conference, the 2020 Technical Training course will cover “Equipment Maintenance and Operation System”. This will be held on 7 June 2020. The trainer will be from InfoChamp Systems Corporation (ICSC), a fully owned subsidiary of China Steel Corporation (CSC).
 
Next will be the 2020 SEAISI Training Programme. Hosted by the Australian National Committee, this programme will including visits to various steel and steel related facilities in Australia.
 
SEAISI’s final event of the year, the 2020 ASEAN Iron and Steel Sustainability Forum will be held towards the end of November in Myanmar. Co-hosted by the Myanmar Iron and Steel Association (MISA), SEAISI is organising the Forum in Myanmar. We are excited about having the Forum in Myanmar and feedback from the various parties who heard about this, have been very positive.
