Main drive modernization at Mill #3, in Al Jubail
Danieli Automation will modernize the main drives for the finishing section of Bar Mill #3 at Al Jubail, originally supplied by Danieli.
The turnkey project involves installing new 690-Volt drives on the existing footprint and interfacing these to the existing automation.
The scope of supply will include new drive panels and motor controls for stands 12-18, shears # 2 and 3, pendulum drive knives # 1 and 2, and the pendulum drive unit for Bar Mill #3. All of this will be supplied together with the necessary hardware and software modifications to quickly establish communication between the new drive panels and modules and the existing PLCs Level 1 automation system.
The new drives will be more user-friendly and will introduce power recovery capability (active front end solution), enhancing performance and reducing power consumption. Overall, the revamp project will reduce the rolling mill maintenance requirements, while improving the availability of spare parts.
This order follows two recent, ongoing projects for Danieli Automation at SABIC Hadeed, to modernize the HSM drives and revamp the CCM #4 drives.
