PAUL WURTH AND RINL CONDUCTED SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE TESTS FOR BF3 AT VIZAG STEEL PLANT

Between the 16th of March and 21st of April 2016, all Performance Guarantee tests for No.3 Blast Furnace have been completed successfully at Rashtriya Ispat Nigam’s Vizag Steel Plant, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India.

The Consortium (Paul Wurth Italia S.p.A., Paul Wurth India Pvt. Ltd and Larsen & Toubro Ltd) responsible for the construction of the furnace, Customer’s consultant DASTUR Co. and all concerned Vizag Steel departments signed protocols certifying the successful completion of all Performance Guarantee tests. These were related to hot metal production (average production and peak production rates), fuel rate, gas cleaning efficiency and pollution: cast house and stock house stack emissions, ambient dust concentration and noise level parameters.

The facts provide a confirmation of the robustness and quality of a Paul Wurth designed Blast Furnace which shows quality parameters and productivity in accordance with the Customer’s expectations and with the contractual framework. It is particularly remarkable, that these tests were successfully passed within the normal production conditions of the integrated steel plant as a whole and after a longer period of operations from the blow-in date of the furnace.

Vizag Steel Plant’s No. 3 Blast Furnace can produce 2.5 million tpy of hot metal, with operational parameters standing for reduced operational expenditure, thus allowing RINL to increase its overall production at Visakhapatnam to 6.5 Mtpy of final products at competitive performance.
