First Stage Startup of Danieli SBQ Mill Completed in Poland

The first stage of the new Danieli SBQ (Special Bar Quality) mill (RM#2) at CMC Zawiercie started operation at the end of 2009. The mill is composed of the 160-tonnes-per-hour Danieli Centro Combustion walking beam furnace and the 17-stands SHS roughing and intermediate mill.

Initially the new mill, installed alongside the 500,000-tonnes-per-year rolling mill #1 also supplied by Danieli and in operation since 1999, is designed to feed the existing wire rod production outlet.

The second stage, due for startup in the second half of 2010, includes the  4-stands finishing mill, the water cooling boxes for low-temperature finish rolling of SBQ products or quenching and self-tempering of deformed bars, the 100-m-long cooling bed and associated on-line straightening and cut-to-length facilities, single head magnetic stacker, weighing, tying, and collecting services.

The final product range will include 16 to 80-mm-diameter plain bars, 14 to 40-mm-diameter rebars, 35 to 200-mm flats, 50 to 180-mm angles, and correspondent channels. Rolled steels will include LC, MC, HC, and low-alloyed construction and engineering grades.

Danieli Automation has supplied electrical, automation, and process control systems.
