"Ukraine ranks 10th among 40 pig iron producing countries (20.06 million tonnes, or 97.6% of the amount produced in 2018). [...] Ukraine ranks 13th among 64 steel producing countries (20.85 million tonnes, or 98.8% of the amount produced in January-December 2018)," the Ukrmetalurgprom Association reported.
According to worldsteel, 1.36 billion tonnes of pig iron was produced in 2019, or 2.27% more than in 2018.
China remains the world's largest pig iron producer (809.4 million tonnes; 5.33% more than in 2018). The share of Chinese pig iron in world production in 2019 was 59.7%.
The top five pig iron producing countries in 2019 also included India (111 million tonnes; up 3.9%), Japan (74.9 million tonnes; down 3.1%), Russia (50.3 million tonnes; down 2.7%), and South Korea (47.5 million tonnes; up 0.9%). Ukraine remained 10th among 40 world pig iron producers in 2019 (20.06 million tonnes; down 2.4%).
World steel production in 2019 amounted to 1.87 billion tonnes, which was 3.4% more than in 2018.
The top five steel producing countries in 2019 were China (996.3 million tonnes, 8.3% more than in 2018), India (111.2 million tonnes; up 1.8%), Japan (99.3 million tonnes; down 4.8%), the United States (87.9 million tonnes, up 1.5%), and Russia (71.6 million tonnes; up 0.8%). Ukraine remained 13th among 64 world steel producers in 2019 (20.85 million tonnes; down 1.2%).
According to worldsteel, Ukraine also ranked tenth in world pig iron production (20.56 million tonnes) and 13th in world steel production (21.1 million tonnes) in 2018.
