The 2019 SEAISI Conference and Exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand promises to deliver yet another interesting and insightful event for steel industry professionals. With the theme “Sustainable Development of ASEAN Steel Value Chain”, the event will be held from 17 to 20 June 2019 at the Athenee Hotel.
One of the highlights of the conference is the Keynote Session on the opening day which will feature presentations by two prominent keynote speakers as well as a CEO Panel Discussion. The keynote speakers are Mr. Yoshiyuki Nobusa, Senior Vice President of JFE Steel Corporation and Mr. Lin Zhangguo, Managing Director and CEO of HBIS Industrial Technology. After the keynote presentations, the two speakers will participate in the CEO panel discussion on the theme of the conference i.e. “Sustainable Development of ASEAN Steel Value Chain”. Joining the panel discussion will be a few prominent steel industry captains from the ASEAN region.
The opening day of the conference will also feature two general sessions. The first session will cover Regional Developments in which I will present a report on the Performance of the ASEAN Iron and Steel Industry in 2018 and Outlook. In the same session, SteelHome will talk about Chinese Steel Industry Market Policy and Market Forecast while the Indian Steel Association (ISA) will provide an insight on Indian Steel Industry and Outlook.
The second session on Market Perspectives & Challenges will see the presentation of several papers touching on various key development issues affecting the steel industry today. They are “The New Era in Steel Post China Supply Side Reforms and the Outlook for Steelmaking in SE Asia” by CRU; “The New Era for Chinese Scrap” by Kallanish; “ASEAN Moves from Steel Price Taker to Market Maker” by Argus Media; and “Trade Wars and Impact on ASEAN Steel Industry” by UOB Singapore.
As in the past, there will also be the presentation of Country Reports which will provide an opportunity for the delegates to be updated on the status and outlook of the iron and steel industry in the respective SEAISI member countries. For the first time, Myanmar, which was admitted as a member country of SEAISI end last year, will make its maiden country report at the conference.
The Technical Sessions on days two and three will feature many informative papers covering such topics as Digital Developments, Plant Management, Operation Excellence, Environmental Management, Process Improvement, Steel Applications, Raw Materials, Technology Development, Product Development, High Grade Steel Development, Emerging Technology, Quality Improvement and Cost & Energy Savings.
In addition, there will also be two special plenary sessions to wrap up the programme on days two and three, featuring presentations by industry experts and panel discussion involving the speakers and invited panellists. The two sessions are ”Changing Environments and the Transformation of Steel Processing for Competitiveness” and “Value Creation in Steel Industry Through Circular Economy Mindset”.
The Plant Tour on day four will offer delegates the rare opportunity of visiting several leading steel and steel related establishments in Thailand.
The first route will visit the facilities of Millcon Steel Public Company Limited, a leading producer and distributor of steel products, including rebar, as well as a fully integrated steel service centre; and Danieli Thailand, the Asian design and manufacturing centre of the Danieli group.
The second route will cover ST. Frame & Trust Co., Ltd, which specialises in the fabrication and erection of steel structure for factories, warehouses, commercial/trade centres, etc; and Thai Metal Trade PLC (TMT), a leading integrated steel solution provider in Thailand.
